European Parliament’s sports intergroup is a group of Members of the European Parliament with an interest in sports. Our members include former Olympic medalists, athletes, referees, and fans of sports. What brings us together is our belief that sports plays a unique social, societal, economic and political role in Europe and beyond, and that ‘sports’ is much broader than professional sports.

We must actively promote the needs of amateur athletes, children, disabled persons in any all the decisions we make. We want this website to be a space for public dialogue between sporting bodies, stakeholders, politicians and decision-makers in Europe.

We meet regularly with experts and with interested parties and host a number of events throughout the year to raise awareness of sporting issues. In this spirit of open cooperation, I would like to encourage you to contribute your thoughts and experiences to help enrich the ongoing debates at European level.

Our meetings and events range from supporting voluntary and amateur sports, such as the Special Olympics, to working with professional sporting bodies on areas of political importance, such as intellectual property rights or the fight against racism. We encourage the promotion of sport as a tool for social inclusion and community relations, and to this end the Sports Intergroup has consistently supported the work of organisations such as Right to Play and SCORE, who do excellent international development work, along with more well-known names such as the Premier League and UEFA, both of whom invest a lot of money supporting grass-roots sports and community initiatives.

If you have are interested in the work of the Sports Intergroup, or you would like more information or to attend a meeting, please contact us.
